House Removals

Moving house is one of the biggest jobs a household takes on — and it goes smoothly when the whole move is handled as one plan. Our house removals service shifts entire households across Halswell and the wider Christchurch area, from the first packed box at the old place to the last room unloaded at the new one.

Arthur Paine Removals is based at 80 Mcteigue Road, Halswell, so most of our work is local: family homes, rental shifts, first-home moves and downsizes around Christchurch. Being local matters on moving day — short travel between addresses, knowledge of the streets and driveways, and a crew that can time the day around your settlement or key handover.

Every house move starts with a phone call. Tell us what is shifting — roughly how many rooms, any heavy or awkward items like pianos, large cabinets or whiteware, and whether there are stairs, long driveways or tight access at either end. That conversation lets us plan the load: which items go first, what needs wrapping, and how the truck should be stacked so nothing shifts in transit.

What the job covers

• Loading and transport of household furniture, boxes and whiteware between your two addresses
• Furniture carried on hand trucks and up loading ramps, then strapped and stacked in the truck
• Room-by-room unloading at the new place, so boxes land where they will be unpacked
• Careful handling of heavy items such as lounges, bedroom suites, dining tables and cabinets
• Coordination around your timing — settlement day, tenancy changeover or staged moves

How to prepare

• Pack, seal and label every box before moving day, marking the room it belongs in at the new place
• Defrost the freezer, disconnect washing machines and dishwashers, and secure any loose parts
• Measure large furniture against doorways and stairwells at the new address
• Set aside a small essentials bag — chargers, keys, documents, bedding — that travels with you, not in the truck
• Confirm parking for the truck at both addresses so loading and unloading stay quick

On the day, we load heaviest first and build the stack so lighter boxes ride safe on top. Fragile items travel cushioned and secured, and everything is checked off as it comes down the ramp at the new house. If you would like help getting packed in the first place, ask about our packing services when you call.

Arthur Paine Removals is open Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Call us to talk through your house move — what is shifting, where between, and when — and we will plan it with you.
